A resent example of satire is Borat the movie. The Borat is a very good way of experiencing satire because you can see the reaction of actors in certain situations. It is also interesting to see that reaction of a moviegoer. People are also very interested in satire because it is a way of discussing prevalent issues with being extremely serious about them

“Fliers urging white people not to celebrate Martin Luther King’s Birthday were left in the driveways of several homes in the Amawalk section of Somers the day before the holiday. But because the fliers did not target or threaten anyone, the state police said they were considered an act of free speech and not a bias crime.

Wilbur R. Aldridge, regional director for the N.A.A.C.P. in the Mid-Hudson and Westchester region, agreed that the fliers, though obviously racially motivated, seemed to be within the law.

“I would hope and have to rely upon the intelligence of the people in Somers to realize this was done by somebody who has racist intentions,” Mr. Aldridge said.

The fliers were titled “Embrace Your Race” and said: “Wake Up Whites! Do NOT celebrate Martin Luther King Day!”

A group calling itself North East White Pride had its name on the fliers, and the distribution seemed to be coordinated on the group’s Web site, which appears to be a vehicle for white supremacists.

Racism in the United States is still extremely prevalent. The government however can not do enough about it. There is no reason that people should be able to distribute such racist material and not have any punishment. In schools we are taught that racism is an extremely bad thing and that under no circumstances is being racist okay. The government does not have anyway have punishing people that are to ignorant to realize the consequences and how hurtful and demoralizing their actions can be. American need to learn that the world does not completely revolve around their beliefs and ideals.

Racism is an extremely interesting issue to discuss. There are many different forms of racism in the United States right now. Although the U.S. prides itself on being a diverse country, people are still struggling with racism. Today many African American are still struggling with ignorant white people. One of my very best friends is an African American. She has told me many stories of white people treating her with no respect and acting as if she is lower than them. This is not the case however. Black people are just as smart and deserve whatever they achieve. African American Racism is on the forefront of the news right now. The Sean Bell case is generating a lot of speculation in the news. However the case may not have been over race at all.

“The photos of the officers indicate that racism had absolutely nothing to do with this shooting,” said Michael J. Palladino, president of the Detectives’ Endowment Association. “The photos nullify the racism aspect of the shooting because at least three of the five officers are people of color.”

This quote proves that the case is not about racism. The importance of this is that American people often assume that an act is racist because the Unites States is still struggling with issue of racism. In the United States racism is a very influential issue and should be dealt with in anyway that is appropriate.

The first semester went pretty well. I believe I learned a lot. The class was extremely interesting and fun. As a class is believe that we were pretty productive when we really needed to be. The class discussion was intellectual and help me learn about the books that we read. My favorite thing that we did this year was the concept of evil in society. It was extremely interesting to me because I don’t believe in God yet I still believe in a concept of evil. Another thing that i enjoyed was the Macbeth project. It was a different way of analysing the book because it was very hands on. The only thing that I did not like was the constant distractions in our class. It became very hard to learn at certain time because some people in our class did not want to participate and pay attention. I believe however that the first semester when pretty well and I am extremely excited for the next semester.

I found the class discussion very interesting today. The Iraq war is an extremely interesting topic because it can be approached in many different ways. The Iraq Study Group had a very different approach than most people. They believe that Iraq’s neighbors need to help stabilize Iraq. However this brings controversy because Iraq is surrounded by Iran and Saudi Arabia. In Iraq their are religious conflicts going on. Iraq was previously controlled by Sunni Muslims. During the election the Shi’ites were voted into power. Saudi Arabia is controlled by Sunni Muslims. They believe that Iraq should be controlled by Sunni’s again. Iran. Iraq other neighbor, is mostly shi’ite. They also believe that their ruling religion should be in power. These two countries are hurting Iraq instead of helping stabilize it.

The Iraq Study Group also believes that there should be an increase of troops. This is very controversial because the United States would have to implement a draft. The draft would bring up extreme issues because America had already suffered extreme casualties and by creating the draft many more people would be at risk. The Iraq study group created my controversial issues.

Kristina has a very interesting theory of evil. She said

Through the eyes of an American, the terrorists of September 11th are evil, but from their point of view, they were doing something good. They sacrificed themselves for a cause that they believed in and proved a point to America.

The idea that evil is in the eye of the beholder is very true. People in the middle east do not consider themsleves evil, they believe that they are doing what is right for their country. However in America we believe that the terrorist in the middle east are evil and they should be punished for their sins. Another example of this is the Holocaust. Hitler did not belive that hes was doing anything evil, he believe that he was saving he country from the people that were ruining it. I believe that the slaughtering of millions of people can never he a good thing. These example prove the point that evil is in the eye of the beholder and that people definition can be extremely different.

Evil is something that the entire world has to deal with.Whether or not a person believes in the Devil, most people believe in a sense of bad and good. My definition of evil is, a word that people can use to describe the negitivity that happens in the world. I believe that the Devil is used by the church to keep their members in line. I do not agree with this. i think that the Devil should be used to counter balance God. God is belived the be the highest power that no one can defeat. The Devil is supposed to be his challanger. He represents what God opposes.

Some examples of evil in the modern world are: the holocost, the genicide of Rwanda and Darfur. In the United States evil is used to describe this events. There is no other word that can describe the events that gone on in this world.

In the world there was to be good and evil otherwise the world we live in would not longer exist. America and many other countries thrive on conflict and the idea of good and evil.
